Adventures in Digital Photography
September 25 - 26 in Chautauqua Park in Boulder, Colorado.

ADVENTURES IN DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY
Do you love traveling to beautiful and wild locales? Or, maybe you hike, bike, run, ski, or climb where the terrain literally takes your breath away. Is there a camera by your side in those moments? Whether you shoot as an amateur or aspiring pro, this hands-on and classroom workshop will lift your photography to the next level.
WORKSHOP LEVEL
Participants should have basic knowledge of how to use their camera prior to the class.
REQUIREMENTS
Must bring a digital SLR camera. It is also recommended, but not required that you bring a laptop computer with photo editing software already installed.
WORKSHOP CLASSES
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 25
8AM – 5PM
Composition, Lighting, Angle, and Location: We’ll discuss the rule of threes, the best ways to use natural light, different angles and lens selections, plus how to find the perfect location and subject for your shot.
Refresher 101: Digital SLRs provide a ton of automatic settings for different situations, but it’s critical in advancing as a photographer that you know how to make decisions about exposure, shutter speed, and ISO on manual setting. We’ll look at various types of shooting opportunities and the using different combinations of exposure, shutter speed, and ISO to achieve desired affects.
Field Work: Using the spectacular Flatirons mountains and the fall foliage of Chautauqua Park, you’ll head out to experiment with some assignments, get situational instruction and tips, as well as feedback on your results.
KEYNOTE ADDRESS
7PM TO 9PM: On Saturday evening, we will have an award-winning photographer share his story with attendees.
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 26
8AM – 5PM
Photo Editing: Saturation, contrast, cropping, color correction, and other editing techniques can make the difference between a good photo and a great one. One of our magazine photo editors will discuss a few tools to create some editing magic.
Getting Paid for This: In this class, we’ll talk about how to put together a stunning portfolio and Web site, how to sell stock images, where to get work, how to pitch photo editors and creative directors, and what to expect along the way.
Student Showcase: Students will share work with the group on the big screen in the Grand Assembly in 5-minute sessions. Work must be provided on CD-ROM or Flash Drive in a folder with JPEG files just prior to the start of student presentations.
Other things we’ll cover:
What equipment is absolutely necessary as I step up to the next level?
How much do I have to make as a photographer before I can write off my ski trips?
I feel intrusive taking photos of people. How do I get over this?
How do I protect my work once it’s on my Web site or on the Internet?
Where can I tap into networking and other professional organizations?
